The Australian National Maritime Museum’s banner display of the exhibition “Guardians of Sunda Strait – the World War II loss of HMAS Perth and USS Houston,” will fly on the mighty Battleship Texas.  Eight large banners tell the story of the sister ships and their heroic crews, as they fought against overwhelming odds against the Japanese 75 years ago in the narrow sea passage between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra.  The banners also tell the story of the capture of survivors, and their POW experiences that led to lasting friendships and the development of the Houston-Perth sister city relationship.  The USS Texas is a member of the Historic Naval Ships Association.  Battleship Texas State Historic Site, 3523 Independence Parkway South, LaPorte TX 77571. Open daily, 10 am to 5 pm.
