Deeply held beliefs helped the Maya position themselves in the cosmos. Ceremonies involving divination, astronomy, and human sacrifice were common in Mesoamerica and are depicted at such sites as Uxmal and Chichen Itza. Not only can these depictions help us understand official activities, such as the enthronement of kings or warfare, but they also reveal daily life. Even more fascinating–Maya ritual is not dead. Learn how shamanism is still being practiced today
